@thingles I just wanted to let you know we are having a working session on May 9th from 4:30 – 8:00 where we’re going to work on the Annual Report, do some website updates, and streamline the Community Supporter process. Location TBD but I thought I’d let you know in case you want to join us, especially for the web stuff. I’m not sure where the Linode conversation went, but @dylan and @casey will be there.

Jamie Thingelstad
I wrote a new script to import sessions from the session tool that @look and @casey run into the wiki. The sessions are at http://wiki.minnestar.org/wiki/Category:MinneBar_8.
-
Luke Francl
Now you just need to add it to our Sessionizer open source project: https://github.com/minnestar/sessionizer

@thingles FYI Board Meetings- I like the new meetings structure. I’m going to let past meeting minutes reside on their old pages (and reference them). For new meetings, I’m going to put the minutes right into the Meeting form. Sound good to you?
-
Adrienne Peirce
Also, I’m not sure how to remove the [[Has Attendees: ]] in the Attendees box. Am I using it right?

@thingles I tried to update my picture on the Board Page (by adding a new version to the existing picture), but I can’t figure out why it’s not conforming to the 125×125? What am I missing?
-
Jamie Thingelstad
Sorry I didn’t get back earlier on this. It looks like @alttext got it updated for you. Nice picture by the way!

I noticed that minnespark.com and minnespark.org are expiring shortly. Do we plan on renewing them? Given that we aren’t doing this program now I think we can probably let them expire. @alttext?
-
Luke Francl
I say let them go.

@alttext, @casey, @look: Now that we have a server with Linode, I’d like to also move our nameservers to Linode as well. Right now we are using Dynadot DNS. We would continue to use them for registration, but I’d like to setup the domains and migrate NS records. Anyone have a strong opinion against this? My experience with Linode DNS has been top notch, and I like keeping it where the hosts are.

Mentioning @look again to see if he gets an email.

It works!

The website is currently down. I’m working on it. Won’t take me long to fix – it’s the same error we got last time I tried to update.

And we’re back!

@thingles and I had a good conversation in IRC this morning and think it’s time for Minne✱ to move the website to it’s own linode instance. We weighed the tradeoffs between keeping it at IP House, moving it to Jamie’s servers, and moving to separate hardware.
We’ll start by spinning up a Linode instance @adrienne or @alttext I’ll need the credit card details to get that going. A stepped approach is our recommendation … Move the WP instance first and then eventually we’ll move the teamsite and wiki.
We have a planning meeting next Tuesday that we could do the signup and hook up the credit card. Let me know what you guys think. /cc @look

Let me know how I can help. I’m back in the US and ready for action! :-)

Tuesday works for me! @dylan we should update the front page for minnebar, including changing the images and adding the minnebar details. I’ll send you some stuff probably on Sunday
-
Dylan Edwards
Sounds good. I’m going to start looking at the email template stuff too.

We discussed this at the board meeting today and everyone thought it was good to move this. @adrienne stayed after and we now have a Linode account setup. I just created the account and the node. I’ll get @casey both Linode dashboard as well as SSH access shortly. Glad to be moving forward with this! Once we get the basic heartbeat and WordPress going, we’ll likely need @dylan to help getting the whole site moved over. There are a lot of extensions there. :-)
I’m probably also going to move this team site over there as well so it’s one set of usernames and passwords, so we will likely setup WordPress as a network. (Which could be useful for other subsites we wish to do in the future.)
We’ll leave the wiki where it is for now.

Just wanted to check in on the latest- I don’t think I officially got access (or if I did it didnt work). We had another Minnebar planning meeting tonight and there was some talk about the website being slow. We should get this moved over soon if possible… What’s left to be done? /cc @thingles @look @dylan

Hey all, I have not received login credentials for the Linode server space. If I got this in the next couple of days I don’t see why I couldn’t have the site ported over by the end of the weekend.

@thingles @look @dylan Peter Edstrom is looking into out Google Analytics data. He’s asked if we have pre-December (i.e. pre-new-website) data. Does anyone know?
-
Jamie Thingelstad
I would expect there was another Google Analytics account, but I don’t have access to it. My guess is that @look would have it if it exists.

I saw all the MinneDemo 13 videos got uploaded to YouTube this morning. I added them to their respective demo pages on the wiki.
http://wiki.minnestar.org/wiki/MinneDemo_13
This seems worth a blog post right?
-
Jamie Thingelstad
Or better, a page with all the videos on it for easier viewing.

Andrew puts them up set as private so we can double-check, change any titles or settings, etc. before we ‘publish’. I’ll be doing that in the next 20 min.

Jamie Thingelstad
Blog post done.

Have you guys heard of MinneAnalytics (http://bigdatamn.eventbrite.com http://minneanalytics.org) @adrienne @alttext @look @justin @thingles Thoughts?
-
Adrienne Peirce
Yes- Dan, their main planner, attends almost every one of our events. They had actually inquired if we might help them get attendees. They wanted some help promoting their conference and I said maybe we could RT or send a tweet, which we haven’t done :(
-
Ben Edwards
I am wary of lending our support to this in any way because of the possibility of confusion with our brand.

Here are some recommendations:
-Dan Callahan did a short presentation on Mozilla Persona last time, but it’s now officially released and he could probably do a full session on it
-Cloudera has a new product, Impala, that people might be interested in hearing about, Brock Noland could present @thingles @look @casey thoughts?-
Adrienne Peirce
More suggestions from @look:
-JRuby guys (Tom Enebo, Charles Nutter, and Nick Sieger)
-Someone from SmartThings could give a cool talk about hardware or the Internet of Things (several people I worked with at Best Buy were interested in that as well, and there’s that Spark lightbulb in town also, so maybe a panel could be created)
-Big data is hot now, so you could see if there’s any interesting speakers at the BigDataMN conference (http://bigdatamn.eventbrite.com/). -
Casey Helbling
I agree on all those. Call me crazy but I’d like to hear somebody talk about Windows Mobile development. Also, I think it would be cool to hear somebody talk about cloud solutions that aren’t vendor or geography dependent. I’d like to see a real failover solution (for Rails ideally) that is cloud based and can withstand Amazon going down (or Rackspace…) (enStratus?!)
-
Casey Helbling
Also – Cory Preus (Software for Good) recently wrote some extensions to the Tire gem for Elastic Search to better handle nested queries (http://karmi.github.com/tire/#section-Nested_Documents_and_Queries) . I’m sure @look has plenty of material to discuss ES in depth as well… @thingles @adrienne. Finally, I’d like somebody to give me the state of the state of Rails 4.0… and or … a real live example of upgrading both a 3.0 app and a 2.3 app to 4.0.

Is there anything we can do about the speed of minnestar.org? Like adding a caching plugin or gziping the page components?
Or a faster server?
