@thingles I just wanted to let you know we are having a working session on May 9th from 4:30 – 8:00 where we’re going to work on the Annual Report, do some website updates, and streamline the Community Supporter process. Let me disclaimer ahead of time that this could be a terrible idea, so take it as that, just an idea.
While standing in the hundreds-long lunch line I thought — what if we had a separate lunch line for community supporters at Minnebar? Sort of like 1st Class checkin at the airport. Wouldn’t be hard to do, and would give an additional benefit for supporters?

I’m not really into this. I don’t want to turn regular attendees into second class citizens. Also, it’d be complicated to manage.
The long lunch line was mostly caused by lack of traffic control and pizza management. I didn’t realize there were two lines until I got to the staircase. Then when I did get to the second table it was almost out of pizza.

A couple years ago, pizza was served within the dining room, perpendicular to the entrance. I don’t recall it being a monster line. I suspect it was because people could plan their attack instead of responding to a cue to queue.
It seems like a physical problem.

@adrienne I went into SurveyMonkey to see about sending the survey. Our account has reverted to basic, and the payment information isn’t in the account so I can’t get it updated. It looks like we will need to sign up for Gold again and then repeat our request for non-profit discount and then they will credit the account. If you can do the payment stuff to get us setup on Gold that would be great.
You can copy surveys, so a simple copy of the Minnebar 7 survey with the addition of one more option for “How many Minnebar’s have you been to” is all we need to do. Happy to help as well.

@adrienne thinking about this a little bit more. I’ve had a number of opportunities to look at LimeSurvey but I’ve never actually had a reason to set it up. I’m wondering if we shouldn’t bias to cheaper and use this to do all of our surveys. I could setup a survey.minnestar.org domain that we could use for any survey needs. Wouldn’t mind having a free option.

Well, hopefully I’ll be sending out to the masses tomorrow, so if you could wait until them that would line up well. That said, I don’t actually mind if the signup gets ‘leaked’ to the tech community. The community supporters already have access. As do any specific people we’ve reached out to.

@alttext, @casey, @look: Now that we have a server with Linode, I’d like to also move our nameservers to Linode as well. Right now we are using Dynadot DNS. We would continue to use them for registration, but I’d like to setup the domains and migrate NS records. Anyone have a strong opinion against this? My experience with Linode DNS has been top notch, and I like keeping it where the hosts are.

@thingles and I had a good conversation in IRC this morning and think it’s time for Minne✱ to move the website to it’s own linode instance. We weighed the tradeoffs between keeping it at IP House, moving it to Jamie’s servers, and moving to separate hardware.
We’ll start by spinning up a Linode instance @adrienne or @alttext I’ll need the credit card details to get that going. A stepped approach is our recommendation … Move the WP instance first and then eventually we’ll move the teamsite and wiki.
We have a planning meeting next Tuesday that we could do the signup and hook up the credit card. Let me know what you guys think. /cc @look

We discussed this at the board meeting today and everyone thought it was good to move this. @adrienne stayed after and we now have a Linode account setup. I just created the account and the node. I’ll get @casey both Linode dashboard as well as SSH access shortly. Glad to be moving forward with this! Once we get the basic heartbeat and WordPress going, we’ll likely need @dylan to help getting the whole site moved over. There are a lot of extensions there. :-)
I’m probably also going to move this team site over there as well so it’s one set of usernames and passwords, so we will likely setup WordPress as a network. (Which could be useful for other subsites we wish to do in the future.)
We’ll leave the wiki where it is for now.

We had another Minnebar planning meeting tonight and there was some talk about the website being slow. I agree on all those. Call me crazy but I’d like to hear somebody talk about Windows Mobile development. Also, I think it would be cool to hear somebody talk about cloud solutions that aren’t vendor or geography dependent. I’d like to see a real failover solution (for Rails ideally) that is cloud based and can withstand Amazon going down (or Rackspace…) (enStratus?!)

Also – Cory Preus (Software for Good) recently wrote some extensions to the Tire gem for Elastic Search to better handle nested queries (http://karmi.github.com/tire/#section-Nested_Documents_and_Queries) . I’m sure @look has plenty of material to discuss ES in depth as well… @thingles @adrienne. Finally, I’d like somebody to give me the state of the state of Rails 4.0… and or … a real live example of upgrading both a 3.0 app and a 2.3 app to 4.0.
